31 Days Of Yoga // My Thoughts + Results

I’ve been doing yoga for almost two years now, and I love it more every day of practice. My first yoga video was from the Youtube channel Yoga with Adriene, and I’ve been doing it ever since. Recently Adriene did a yoga “revolution”, a.k.a. 31 days of yoga for the month of January. It ended on Tuesday, and in today’s post I’m going to be sharing my thoughts!

How I Feel Mentally

Amazing! After doing yoga every day, I found that my head was clearer, my thoughts were less scattered, and I was calmer and not stressed. Many people mistake yoga for being a physical practice, but don’t realize that it’s more of a mental practice. Yoga has taught me to love myself, to be confident, and to keep my head up high through the bad & good.

How I Feel Physically

My arm muscles are definitely looking bigger. 😉 I can also do more push-ups and have more core strength than before! My muscles were sore the first few days, but eventually my body adjusted and felt amazing after each practice. Along with being stronger, I’m way more flexible!

Why I Do Yoga

I do yoga to be the best Abigail that I can possibly be. Yoga helps me to think positively, it connects my mind to my body, and allows me to let go of negative thoughts and move on. I’m still not perfect at downward dog, I fall when doing tree pose, but none of that matters. What matters is that I show up and do my best.

Day 16 was my favorite practice by far, and I keep going back to it to stretch and get in a nice workout! Here’s the video if you’d like to give it a try.

Even though the revolution is over, you can do it! Be sure to check out Adriene’s channel, she has so many yoga videos. If you did the revolution, I would love to hear what you think about it/your results! Thank you for reading. 🙂

  1. I’ve been keeping up with the revolution but had to double-up on some days because either I went to the gym for another class some days, family was in town, or other reasons. I only have the last 2 days left to catch up on and will definitely finish before the weekend is up (I went to the gym tonight and will probably go tomorrow so no revolution!). At first I thought the practices would be “too easy” but I seriously have noticed a huge difference in my strength and flexibility.

I do Body Pump classes at the gym and tonight I was able to up my weights and I was barely struggling! I can now do tree pose with my foot on my upper thigh – something I thought I would never be able to do with my hip problems. My shoulder hurts less. My wrist hurts less. I didn’t really lose weight but I feel leaner.

I am in a stressful rotation at work that 2 years ago, I mentally and emotionally couldn’t handle because of.. well… idiots (LOL) and now I am able to handle my stress levels better and I don’t want to flip furniture (as often!). Haha I swear I’m not violent!

I thought one month would be too short to notice any changes, but I am glad I was wrong. I joke with people that now I’m turning into an old hippie and talk about balancing our chakras (haha whatever that is). My goal for 2017 is to be able to do bakasana – crow pose. That is badass and I’m going to work on killing it!

Thank you, Abigail, for introducing me to YWA. I will continue with it as I’m liking what it’s doing for me mentally and physically. I’m learning to listen to my body. I’ve lived in pain for 5 years now (mostly back/sacrum pain) and I’m hopeful this will relieve me of it one day. ❤

    Namaste!

P.S. I've been telling everyone at work about YWA and I found out one of my friends and her husband does it! Yay!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on the revolution, this was so nice to read! You are totally welcome, I’m so glad that you’re enjoying it. Good luck on crow pose, I’m sure you’ll be able to do it soon! And good for you, committing to yoga and working out. I know a lot of people that dropped out and so it makes me so happy to hear that you’re enjoying it. 🙂 I hope that the pain will go away. I got a second degree sunburn that damaged my legs to the point where I couldn’t stretch them, my legs went completely stiff, but eventually after blood, sweat, and tears (literally), I could move my leg again. Yoga is amazing, huh? 😉 Namaste!

      1. Actually I went to a Body Flow class at my gym last night and I held crow pose for 2-3 whole seconds!! I am quickly on my way! Woop woop!!

Wow that sunburn sounds so serious! I hope it didn’t do any lasting damage to you. I am glad to hear you’re better! ❤

I just emailed my mom info on YWA. I'm getting outta control, LOL!

        Namast'ay in shape!

  4. Hey Abigail! I’m so proud of it for sharing your experience. I have a strong respect for Yoga With Adrienne as she was my first introduction to yoga sessions as well! Isn’t it wonderful when your first class inspires you to be a yoga teacher because they’re so awesome? Trust me, there are so many other ways that could’ve gone down! Lol she is awesome and my teacher idol! Hope we can connect further and keep on exploring.💐

  5. I’ve also been trying to get into a daily yoga practice and while I am currently using an app, the revolution sounds really appealing! I think I’ll give it a go. Congrats on your success!

  6. Hi! I have also been practising yoga with Adriene for almost two years now. Has been a wild ride with lots of ups and downs and inbetweens but it’s like you said, it’s helping me be the best “me” possible. Loved the Revolution and will do it again soon 🙂

  7. I have not done yoga with Adriane and I have not completed a 31 day revolution, but I do consistently practice! I will have to check this out! It is great to read about how it has transformed your body physically and mentally. I know after taking time off and getting back to the practice, I feel so refreshed! Even the first time I ever tried yoga, about three years ago, I remember it being such an emotional and rewarding experience!
