Crochet Heart Chain | Valentine’s Day

Finally, it’s the weekend–can I get an amen? I love Valentine’s Day. It’s such a sweet holiday. We should constantly tell our family & friends that we love them, but Valentine’s Day is a special holiday to go out of the way to show your love. I was watching Netflix & chilling a few days ago, and my fingers were itching for a project. I always come back to this heart pattern, they’re so much fun to make, so I whipped up a ton of hearts and made three heart chains.

Hi.JPG

Since I had two extra chains, I gave them to my mother as an early Valentine’s gift. ❀ These were super easy to make! And they aren’t just for Valentine’s Day–they look great as a decoration. You can also get pretty clever with the hearts–slip them in a card, put them in a mason jar…the possibilties are endless.Hi hi hi hi.JPG

I’m pleased with the result, and since each chain took about three minutes, I’m sure I’ll make a ton of these! If you would like to crochet the hearts, here’s the pattern:

Ch 4. Work 3 tr (triple crochet) into first ch, 3 dc, ch 1, 1 tr, ch 1, 3 dc, 3 tr. Ch 3, sl st into center and fasten off.

If I’m being honest, I think Valentine’s Day should be a day to celebrate loving ourselves. 😉 Living is hard! We deserve chocolate. 😉 What do you do for Valentine’s Day? Let me know, I’m curious! Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a great day/night.

What’s New?

I learned to love the journey, not the destination. I learned that this is not a dress rehearsal, and that today is the only guarantee you get.

Hi! I’m popping in with a quick post to let you know what’s new with me.

I’ve said it a million times, but I love autumn. I love it so much. The air is so fresh, so clean, so crisp. Along with pumpkins and apples and leaves, Fall also brings cozy evenings and a sense of comfort and warmth.

We have a pond in our backyard, and in fall and winter we take a lot of walks to the pond to watch the wildlife. My mom took the photos above today, and it’s amazing how colorful the leaves are.

Doesn’t this look like something out of a fairytale?

In Autumn, I have a lot of lazy days where I’ll snuggle up on the couch with Charlie and do my homework.

I love keeping my hands busy, so I crocheted a placemat thing and ended up giving it to my mother. I’m not sure what I think about the grey part. I added it in as an after thought, but something about it seems off. Either way I’m happy with the way that it turned out!

I know this post was a bit random, I just wanted to share a few photos from my week with you. I wanted to take photos of my newest make today, but it was raining outside, so hopefully we’ll take pictures tomorrow. Stay tuned for the next post. Thank you for reading!

Crochet Coasters

Crochet Coasters.png

Bonjour! I just finished my French homework and I thought I would write a quick post.

I love to crochet, but I’m still a beginner (I’ve only been crocheting for about a year and a half). I was feeling crafty a few days ago, so I asked my mother if she wanted me to crochet her anything, and she requested some coasters. I spent some time on Pinterest (by the way, my username is Abigail08) looking at coasters, and I saw some adorable coasters, but I wanted an easy coaster pattern that I could actually understand. 🙂

Coasters #5.jpg

I used a tan/mustard colored yarn for the coasters. I know that there are much more fancy and beautiful coasters out there, but I just wanted to crochet something simple, so I just crocheted for a basic circle.

I went a little coaster crazy and ended up making eight coasters. The first ones that I made turned out a bit hole-y because I was forgetting to do the slip stitch at the end of each round. The other ones turned out nicely, though. I was feeling lazy so I didn’t weave in the ends. Oops. 🙂

Overall, I’m pretty pleased with the result! The coasters are simple, but they serve their purpose. Once I begin making Christmas presents, I may make some coasters with different colors, or I’ll try to crochet some fancier coasters.

Here is the tutorial I used:

Blue & Grey Crochet Blanket

Hiya! Today I have a different kind of post….a crochet post!

After Christmas, I had the desire for a big crochet project. Crocheting for me is normally just rectangles, squares, hearts, and other random shapes, but I really wanted to learn some new skills. I started off with two skiens of yarn, and ended up buying 7 skeins. I was inspired by this blanket.

Well, 7 skeins, one month, 100 BBC Merlin episodes, and 64 granny squares later, I came up with this.

Charlie wanted to be in the shot again. He got so much love last time, so I figured I might as well include him again.

I’m so happy with the result. Most of it was making the squares, which made a huge stack, but when I actually crocheted them together the blanket was smaller. If I didn’t know, I never would have guessed 64 squares went into this!

The rows have been coming apart at the corners. I crocheted a long rectangle of 8 granny squares together and then crocheted the rows together. NOTE TO SELF: Darn your ends in. I never thought that darning/sewing-crocheting in the end pieces of yarn could make a difference. I was lazy and I knotted the end of the rows and cut it off. Well, I wish I didn’t do that, because I have been fixing my  falling apart blanket all week!

If you would like to learn how to crochet, I would recommend learning. Crochet is great for something to do in the car, or something to carry in your purse. It’s very portable, which is something I always liked about it. Bella Coco has tons of great beginner YouTube videos for the beginner.

Thoughts on the blanket:

I would make it again. It ended up a little bit smaller than I planned, but it’s really good as a lap blanket or a decorative blanket for my bed. I also think I would use this technique again for a baby blanket.

I also added a small single crochet border for effect.

Well, I suppose that’s all! Thoughts anyone?

3 Pillows And A Dog

Oh, hi! It feels like forever since I’ve last posted. I’m excited about the upcoming posts (two new apparel things to show you AND a blanket!) but today, I have an equally exciting post! Over Christmas break, I sewed my bed some new throw pillows.

IMG_8744.JPG

Allow me to introduce to the first–a hashtag pillow cover. I sewed it using my new flannel and pillow cover. I wanted a simple, modern throw pillow and a hashtag seemed perfect.

I made the cover using the envelope method. It looks pretty good if I do say so myself. The two flaps didn’t meet, which is a little disappointing, considering I measured it over and over. But oh well, we learn from our mistakes. Cute, right?

panda

Actually, I wasn’t going to post about this, but eventually I decided to. It’s a panda! A couple things turned out wrong, so it looks like a bear. Once I added the tulle bow, it looked a little better.

IMG_8742.JPG

And lastly, my favorite pillow. A donut! I used a tutorial online, it was very easy and took me only an hour to sew. I have gotten SO many compliments from friends and family on this. Donuts are probably my favorite dessert, and when I saw a tutorial for this on YouTube I knew that I needed it. The brown flannel/fleece was a remnant from Joann’s, and I received the white flannel and sprinkle colored fabric for Christmas.

IMG_8740.JPG

My dog likes it too! This is Charlie, he’s a mix between a cocker spaniel and a poodle. When I carried him upstairs, he wasn’t too happy, especially when I started taking pictures.

IMG_8741.JPG

His eyes were closed, but this picture was so cute, I had to put it up. Is it a donut or a sombrero?

IMG_8738.JPG

Doesn’t it look so lovely? After learning how to sew and crochet, decorating my bedroom has been easier than ever. I’ve sewn and crocheted hearts, bunting flags, pillows, blankets, etc.

I’ll leave you with this picture. A girl plus her dog equals true love!

P.S. If you would like a tutorial to any of the pillows above, drop a comment and maybe I’ll do one:D
