5 Things Not To Do As A Blogger

Hello there! Happy Saturday! By the way, thank you all so much for the survey results! Many of you said that you wanted more blogging posts, so be prepared for quite a few of those over the next few weeks!

In today’s post, I’m going to be talking about five things NOT to do as a blogger. I’ve talked about what you SHOULD do as a blogger in the past, so it’s time to shake it up and try something new! Let’s hop right in.

Unknown.jpeg

Fancy graphic, huh? I don’t think including too many photos or over promoting your posts would kill your blog, but then again, I’ve always had a flair for the dramatic. ūüėČ

-Don’t Post Just To Post-

Be sure to check out my post on My #1 Blogging Tip, because it talks more about having quality content! It’s really important that when you post, it has a purpose, and you’re not just typing up a quick post just to post. If you find that you’re doing this, maybe try posting less often so you have time to work on making every post perfect.

IMG_0222.jpg

-Don’t Use Too Many Images-

It’s always really important to have images in your post. But it’s also important not to have TOO many! If you have more than¬†15+ pictures, go through the post and see which ones you really need. If some of the images are unimportant, consider deleting them! But if you don’t want to take away any photos, just warn your readers that there are a lot of pictures in that post.

IMG_0217.jpg

-And Don’t Use Too Few, Either-

But make sure you don’t use too few photos, either! If you have a post heavy with text, it’s easier on the eyes to include some images. So how many pictures should I include in a post?¬†¬†It depends on the length of the post, but four to eight is usually a good amount.¬†IMG_0221.jpg

-Don’t Tag Posts With Irrelevant Tags-

Tagging posts is so much fun, am I right?! But before you hit the publish button and share your post with the world, make sure the tags you use in your posts are relevant. Also, make sure the tags are common, frequently used tags so that people are more likely to find your post. Don’t use too many!

IMG_0207.jpg

-Don’t Over-Promote Your Blog-

Okay, for this last one, you’re probably shaking your head. It’s so important to get your blog out there–Pinning every post, putting it on social media, commenting on other blogs–but, remember, everything in moderation.

I once followed a blogger that pinned the same post from her blog over and over and over on Pinterest. She did this so that it would get more views, because the more you pin something, the more chances for it to get views. But that got annoying pretty quickly, as you can guess. If you re-pin your posts or share your posts over and over, you could lose followers. Tread carefully, my friends.

Were these tips helpful? Is there anything else that you think you should never do as a blogger? Let me know in the comments, and we’ll help each other out! Have a marvelous weekend.

Tips For A Better Night’s Sleep

I’m tired just writing the title, folks.¬†Hey, how is it going?! For those of you on Spring break, how has your break been so far? In today’s post, I’m going to be sharing my tips for a better night’s rest, because when you sleep better, you have a better day.

I used to be very insomniac, and it was hard for me to fall asleep. Luckily, I’ve found some things that have helped me fall asleep easier, so hopefully, those tips will help you as well. Shall we get into it?

IMG_0018.jpgIMG_0020.jpg

-Get Cozy-

Okay, this should go without saying, but you need to get cozy, people. Grab some blankets and cozy socks, snuggle up in your little nest of warmth, and relax. Let go of any stress and just chill. Put your electronics in another room, turn on some soft piano music…the works. This is your time.

IMG_0028.jpgIMG_0041.jpg

-Treat Yourself-

Treat yourself, people! This is similar to getting cozy. Put on your best pajamas, slather yourself in lotion, grab a pint of ice cream (okay, maybe not), put on your slippers…set aside time for yourself. You survived the long day, you deserve it.

IMG_0036.jpg

-Read A Book-

Reading a book is a wiser option then being on your phone or laptop before bed–otherwise, it will be harder to fall asleep. My favorite book of all time is Heartless (have any of you read it). Just look at that cover. It’s gorgeous.

IMG_0043.jpg

-Use A Fan-

I talked about this in my post about my evening routine. A lot of people told me in the comments that they use a fan to fall asleep as well! This really works. It seems strange, but if you get a small fan, the relaxing noise of the fan blowing and the cold air will make it easier to fall asleep. I always make sure the air is blowing right on my face, so it makes me feel cold, and I bundle up under the covers. Make sure your fan doesn’t have an annoying noise, though, or it could make it hard to fall asleep.

IMG_0039.jpg

-Do Yoga-

I know many of you do yoga, but if you don’t, give it a try! I love doing the Yoga for Bedtime practice from YWA, but if you don’t have a lot of times in the evenings, she has a seven minute practice. Yoga will definitely help your body to relax and prepare you for sleep.

I hope you sleep well tonight! Do you already do some of these things? Let me know! Thanks for stopping by!

Buh-Bye, Bad Hair

Step aside, OGX¬†Hair Mist, because there’s a new kid on the block. I’ve found my hair holy grail.Hair #3.jpg

The OGX coconut milk anti-breakage serum! What a mouthful, huh?¬†I don’t use a lot of products on my hair, I usually like to keep it natural. Up until I became obsessed with OGX, I just used coconut oil and Calia products.

But–cue the dramatic music–everything has changed. I recently purchased the OGX coconut oil serum, and I love it more than the OGX mist! Both are similar, but I’ve only been using the serum for a week, and it’s already my favorite.

Hair #2.jpg

Pros:

  • It smells amazing
  • It hydrates my hair more than the mist
  • It’s inexpensive
  • My hair has been really silky after using it

Cons:

  • If I use more than a few drops, my hair gets really greasy

unnamed.jpg

I still love the mist, and I’ll still continue to use it, but the smell of the mist makes me feel nauseous sometimes. The serum is thicker, and¬†I feel like it really does a better job of hydrating and making my hair silky. I just use a few drops after showering or when my ends are really dry.

Hair.jpg

I would 100% reccomend this, it has made my hair so silky. What is your hair holy grail?¬†If you’ve tried this product, I would love to know. Have a great day!

My #1 Blogging Tip

Okay, before we get into the post, let me say something: the amount of followers that you have doesn’t matter. Each of those followers matters, but the total amount is unimportant. Whether you have 1 or 1000, at least someone is reading your blog. But you already know that, right? Cool. Then, let’s get into the post!

My post on Things Blogging Has Taught Me was really popular, so I thought I would do a post similar to that. I thought about doing a post on blogging tips, but in the end, your blog all comes down to one thing. Cue the drumroll…

unnamed-6.jpg

-Your Content-

That might seem kind of obvious, maybe not. But it’s true! Your content is everything.¬†Here’s an example, since those seem to be helpful. There are two people.¬†One¬†person posts on their blog every single day. Each post has¬†either typos, blurry pictures, spelling errors…or, maybe the person has amazing pictures, maybe they don’t have typos. It doesn’t matter, because the photos alone can’t hold the post. What’s important is the content. Is the post something interesting? Is the post something people will enjoy and want to read? I don’t know, maybe this person posts about avocados. You decide.

Then there’s the other person. Maybe they post every day, maybe they post once a week. But the difference is that they have interesting content. People look forward to their posts, because this person works hard on their photos, checks their spelling erorrs, and is constantly working to make their blog bigger and better.

unnamed-1.jpg

I’m not hating on anybody, please don’t think I’m being negative. People can post about whatever they want on their blogs.

There are so many important tips I could give. I could talk about how to design your blog, how to take good photos, but I’m not a complete expert. The one thing that I constantly tell new bloggers (or think of telling new bloggers, but I forget) is to have awesome content. To work hard on writing good posts.

unnamed.jpg

Hey, what do I know? I’m a 13 year old blogger with 800 followers. To the person with 3 followers, that seems like a lot. To the person with 5,000 followers, that’s not very many. But, like I said above, don’t worry about numbers! Worry about your content, your pictures, your community. Are people constantly commenting on your posts? Are you engaging your readers and are you sincerely interested in what they think about your posts?

unnamed.jpg

If you’re reading this and you feel that you work really hard on your content, hats off to you. You’re awesome. And before you go thinking the wrong idea, I don’t have perfect content. I don’t have a perfect blog. I don’t have thousands of bloggers. But I’m going to keep working hard–we’re all right where we need to be at the moment.

What are your thoughts on this? Was it helpful, or just filled with rambling? I hope you have an absolutely amazing day. Thank you for reading!

Morning Routine + Abs Workout

Happy International Women’s Day! How are you? (I’m pretty good, thanks for asking!)

My morning routine was requested by a few people in my evening routine post, so without further ado, let’s jump right in.

Morning #3.jpg

It always depends on the day, but I usually wake up around 7:00 to 7:15. On some days, I have to get up at 6:00, and on weekends I sleep in until 8:00 or 9:00.

Unknown.jpeg

After making my bed, the first thing I do is workout. I usually go for a HIIT run on my treadmill, but if I don’t have time, I’ll do a quick workout¬†on my abs. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with my abs, and I made a quick workout that I do every day. It may look easy, but trust me, your heart will be pounding by the end. Be sure to try it out and let me know how it goes for you!

Morning #2.jpg

When I’m done with working out, I eat breakfast. I usually have either toast, fruit, or cereal. Sometimes all three, if I’m really hungry. ūüėČ Breakfast is the foundation of your day, so it’s important to eat something healthy and filling.

Morning #1.jpg

I try to fit this in every morning. I write down a to-do list in my planner and check my email & WordPress. This is the calm part of my morning where I can plan for the day and jot down some post ideas.

Morning #4.jpg

After showering, brushing my teeth, doing my hair, and getting dressed, I put on some makeup. Most days, I just wear mascara and blush to feel put together. When I’m going out in public, I’ll¬†put on a layer of Erase Paste to hide my blemishes, but heavy makeup like foundation and eyeshadow is reserved for special days. But since I don’t really need makeup, I don’t wear a lot. (Or own a lot, for that matter.)

One more thing before you go–my blog has over 800 followers now! Gosh, that’s pretty cool. Thank you so much!

If you would like to share your morning routine or if you have a morning routine post on your blog, let me know! I hope you have a great rest of the day. Thank you for stopping by.

My Aesthetic

Hello, welcome back to another post!

I found out recently that there was an aesthetic tag going around WordPress…I actually had no idea that it existed. Even though I haven’t been nominated for the tag, I’ve wanted to do a post on my aesthetic ever since I got Pinterest. Pinterest is a great way to find pictures that you find aesthetically pleasing. So, in today’s short post, I’ll be sharing my aesthetic with you!

My Aesthetic.jpg

Photos via Pinterest

I love the colors gray, black, creamy white, and gold with the occasional pop of color. I really like clean, minimal photos taken from above (flat-lays). The main thing on my aesthetic board is pictures of cozy sweaters, cozy pillows, cozy blankets, a cup of coffee…I love anything cozy and warm.¬†unnamed.jpg

Books, forests, flowers, cozy blankets…photos of those things are so aesthetically pleasing to me. I also really like things arranged in threes…I have no clue why, it just makes me feel happy. Texture appeals to me as well, but only when it’s used sparingly.

Processed with VSCO with t1 preset

My aesthetic is probably so clean and modern because I’m constantly thinking and analyzing things in my head, so it’s too stressful to be surrounded by patterns and bright colors. To be able to mellow down and relax, I need low colors and minimal textures.

This post was pretty short, but it was fun to write! If you’d like to get a better idea of my aesthetic, here’s my Pinterest board. How would you describe your aesthetic? Have a fantastic day, and I’ll catch you on the flip side!

Change Is Good

Change is always, always a good thing.I love change, even though it’s hard. Every now and then (more like every few months), I change my blog design, because I’m obsessed with change and a fresh design.

I’ve been thinking about this for months! My blog has been getting a ton of new followers and views, and it’s past time to start making my blog look more like a professional blog. Kate did a fantastic job redoing my blog, but one problem remained, like an itch that I couldn’t reach (this is getting dramatic, folks). My blog really needed a new theme.

I finally made the leap and chose a new theme. Since the header image Kate made me didn’t fit, I made a new one. Otherwise, everything else she did for my blog remains.

Be sure to check it out and let me know what you think of it! My blog honestly needed a change and change is good. My blogging friend May Everly just changed her blog theme the other day (by the way, it looks amazing), and something inside my head snapped that I just wanted a change too. Be sure to follow her blog, her posts are fantastic.

Thank you for reading and following me during this journey! I would love to know your thoughts on it. Have an amazing Sunday, and we’ll talk in the comments.

My Evening Routine

Hey, welcome back to another post! This is a common post idea for bloggers, and although I prefer coming up with my own content, I really wanted to do this.¬†I have a long evening routine, so I thought I would share it with you.¬†Let’s get right into it!

I usually start my evenings with stretching and yoga, which is the best feeling after a long day. If I didn’t workout earlier in the day, I’ll squeeze in a quick run or some cardio (if I feel like it).

Desktop #4.JPG

When I’m done with yoga, I wash my face with the Calia facial cleanser. I’ve done a review on this and other Calia products; here’s the link. This cleanser has high quality ingredients and works well to remove makeup and sweat.

Evening Routine #3.JPG

I didn’t take a picture of this, but I usually use some oils on my face for my acne. Lastly, I moisturize¬†my face with the Cetaphil daily facial moisturizer and brush my teeth. Many people rave about this moisturizer, but unfortunately I’m not a fan of it.¬†It gets the job done most of the time, but lately my face has still been dry after using it.

Evening Routine #5.JPG

I don’t go on electronics before sleep, because it makes it much harder for me to fall asleep. Instead, I read my Bible, write in my gratitude journal, and cross off things in my planner. If I feel like it, I’ll write a schedule for tomorrow of the things I need to accomplish. This is my favorite part of the night!¬†I can get all the thoughts out of my brain and spend some time talking to God.¬†Evening Routine #1.JPGEvening Routine #2.JPG

After I’ve cleared the thoughts from my brain, it’s time to get comfy, relax, and destress. I light a candle, turn on my diffuser, and snuggle up with cozy blankets and read a book for an hour or so.¬†Evening Routine #6.JPG

I fall asleep within minutes, and over a few years I’ve developed ways to help myself sleep easier.¬†The best solution I’ve found is to turn on my small fan. (Yes, even in winter!). I can’t sleep without my fan on. I then snuggle under tons of blankets and the relaxing noise of the fan and the cold air hitting my face helps me to fall asleep.

If you’re interested, I would be happy to share my morning routine as well! Just let me know in the comments. Thank you for stopping by! Sweet dreams, and I hope you have a wonderful evening.

My Makeup Holy Grails

Holy grails #5.jpg

Hey there! This post is long overdue; I’ve been wanting to write this for a while. I usually wear a bit of makeup (some foundation, blush, mascara, eyeshadow and liquid lipstick), and in today’s post I’m going to be sharing my favorite products with you.

Holy Grails #4.jpg

I absolutely love this NYX butter gloss. The color is “Angel Food Cake” and, y’all, it smells like cake! It applies easily, the color really compliments my skin tone, and it stays on for a while. It’s inexpensive too. I can’t say enough about it, I just love it. I have large lips so I don’t usually put on lipstick or liquid lipstick, but I love this enough that I wear it almost every day.

Makeup Holy Grails #2.jpg

The other lipgloss I love is the Anastasia Beverly Hills brand in “Metallic Rose”. This one, in my humble opinion, smells even better than the NYX lipgloss.¬†The color is similar to the NYX one, but it’s shimmery and more glossy. It doesn’t stay on as long, but I’m obsessed with the color. At $17, it’s pretty pricey, but it’s high quality and worth it.

Makeup Holy Grails #1.jpg

Don’t the colors look similar?! The first shade is NYX and the second shade is the Anastasia Beverly Hills.

Holy Grails #3.jpg

On special occasions I wear foundation, but I don’t wear it all the time because my pores clog easily, and I have acne-prone skin. When I want to cover up blemishes, I use the Erase Paste from Benefit. The shade blends with my skin tone perfectly, and I feel that it does a really good job of hiding imperfections. It spreads easily, and a little bit goes a long way, so I never have to use a lot. I would definitely recommend it!

Makeup Holy Grails.jpg

My last makeup holy grail is the Maybelline mascara. I’ve used other mascaras in the past, but I always come back to this one. It’s inexpensive, doesn’t clump, and gets the job done!

Have you tried any of these products? How did they work for you? Thank you for reading, have an amazing weekend!

February Wrap Up & Favorites

Would you look at that?! It’s already March! I took and edited tons of photos today for new ¬†content in March, so stay tuned, I have some awesome posts coming up.

My February was really nice. For the beginning of February, we had a ton of snow, and towards the end it was in the 60s and sunny. How was this month for you? Let me know in the comments, I’m curious. And now, without further ado, let’s get into the post.¬†Feb #2.jpgFeb #7.jpg

The OGX coconut oil mist was my favorite product this month. I did a review on it if you want to take a peek, here’s the link. This mist has just made my hair so soft and silky, I love it. It’s super inexpensive too, so when I run out I won’t feel bad about buying more.

Feb #5.jpgFeb #4.jpg

These E.L.F. brushes are only a few dollars at Target. They work well and are high quality for a low price, so I would definitely recommend them! I think I’ll buy some most of their other brushes, since E.L.F. has a good variety.

Feb #3.jpg

I read so ¬†many books this month, but out of all the books I read, this one has been my favorite! Zodiac signs are my guilty pleasure. Uh-oh, the secret’s out. I don’t do the horoscopes or any of that stuff, I just find it interesting (I’m a Virgo, by the way). This is a Sci-fi series with (you guessed it) Zodiac signs. There are some plot holes but overall the universe is really interesting!

Feb #6.jpg

Not Your Mother’s is one of my favorite brands, and I’ve used their dry shampoo so much this month! It works well and doesn’t smell like strong chemicals, which I’ve found with other dry shampoos. It isn’t too expensive, either. (Do you see a common theme? I hate overpaying for products.)

March is going to be a busy, hectic month for me, but I have a lot of new content that I’m excited to share. I hope that you all have an amazing month. What was your favorite product this month, and have you tried any of these products? Thanks for stopping by!
