10 Ways To Make Your Blog More Professional

Hello, and welcome back!

Lately, I’ve been working on making my blog more professional, and I’ve been turning it into more of a website than a blog. In today’s post, I’m going to be sharing some tips with you on how you can make your blog a bit more professional. Ready? Let’s get into it.

10.jpg

  1. Clean up your sidebar

Okay guys, this one is so important. Your sidebar is always there for people to see, so it’s important that it’s not clogged with random links and pictures!

2.  Limit yourself

Of course, in every post, it’s fun to use a million exclamation points and emojis and all that, but limit yourself!

3. Check your writing

This is similar to #2-check your writing! Delete all those “lol”s and “omg”s, and make sure your writing is clean, neat, and professional–but also fun to read!

4. Have a theme

When people go to your blog, it should look inviting and cohesive! Pick a few colors that you want, make a nice header image, make a logo…have it look nice instead of sticking with the bland WordPress theme! Customize it and make it personal, make it your own. Fiddle around.

5. Take high quality pictures

This probably goes without saying, but good pictures make for a good blog post. Check out my post here on how I take my pictures if you’re curious!

6. Have a sign-off

I  have no clue what these are called, but I’m gonna roll with it. Having a sign off (for example, mine is Love, Abigail) will end your posts in a tidy way and make the post look more professional than if it ended abruptly.

7. Have a blogging schedule

Most people have a blogging schedule, but if you don’t, what are you waiting for?! For example, I usually post four times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. My followers know when to expect posts, and it’s not like I post whenever I feel like it.

8. Quality over quantity

If you find yourself posting just to post, take a step back. Check yourself before you wreck yourself. Come up with posts that you’re proud of, and I promise you’ll gain more followers!

9. Spruce up your about me page

I’ve edited my about me page more times than I’m proud to admit. But that’s okay! I am constantly changing little things on my about me page as I change. Over the years, my age and my interests have obviously changed, so I don’t want people to go to my about me page and see that it’s incorrect. I’m always updating the page with new photos and changing it–and you should do the same! Using new photos of yourself, and make it look like it’s cared for, not something that you wrote when you started your blog, and left it since.

10. Remember your followers

Your blog should have a balance! It doesn’t matter what kind of blog you have, your followers should always take something away from each post. Maybe you give your readers some tips, maybe you review a product so they know if it’s a good product or not…help them out! Even if you’re posting about yourself, ask questions at the end of the post so your followers feel included.

Lately, I’ve been having some trouble coming up with post ideas, so here’s a question for all of you: what would you really like to see more of on my blog? If you have any post ideas, let me know down below, because I really value your feedback!

Have a great day!

My #1 Tip For Self-Love

Hey, welcome back! How was your Easter?! Mine was fantastic. I had so much fun going to church, hanging out with my family and eating some delicious food.

Guys, self love is so important. If you want to be able to love others to your fullest ability, you need to start with loving yourself! I could give so many tips, but lately I’ve found one thing that really increases my self-love and self-confidence.

IMG_1267.jpg

I keep a journal and fill it with things about myself. Things that I love about myself, little thoughts I have–basically, I write down things that come to my mind about myself. Everything that I write down is positive. I flip through the journal every day, and it really has helped me to be more confident about myself.

IMG_1276.jpg

When you write down positive things about yourself, these things will come to mind whenever you’re having a hard day. When you train your mind to think positively, over time, it will come as second nature!

IMG_1272.jpg

You’re probably wondering what do I write?! This is your journal, this is your space. Write whatever is important to you. Your favorite songs, your favorite quotes, things you love about yourself…anything! You can tape pictures in the journal, doodle or draw something–make it creative and have fun with it.

Don’t be embarrassed! Brag about yourself! Do you like your laugh, your positivity, your hair? Write it down, and come back to it every day to gain confidence.

What are some tips that help you with self-love and self-confidence? Thank you for reading! Have a fantastic, positive day.

I’m Learning To Let Go

Hello, and welcome back!

As you know, I post a variety of different things on my blog, so today’s post is going to be a bit of a short personal post. Get comfy and grab a snack, and we’ll jump right in! IMG_0429.jpg

The picture I’m holding up is from 2015, when I was 11.

The title of this post is “I’m Learning To Let Go”. What am I learning to let go of, you ask? Little things.

I’ve been known as a worrywart my whole life. I always need to know the little details. For example, if my family is going somewhere, I always need to know where we’re going, what we’re doing, and when we’re doing it. If I don’t have those details, and the future is unclear, I ask a lot of questions, and I won’t be able to have fun when we go there.

IMG_0372.jpg

And when things aren’t close to perfect, I worry. If the curtains aren’t arranged nicely, the chair isn’t pushed in all the way, and the comforter isn’t smoothed out, I can’t relax. All I can think of is the messy comforter, and it nags in my brain until I have to get up and smooth it out.

It’s hard, it’s so hard, but I’m learning to let go. I’m learning to move on. Life isn’t perfect, and it never will be, so I can’t keep focusing on the little things. I’m learning to focus on the big picture. You only live once, and if you spend your whole life focusing on small, tiny, unimportant things, are you really living?IMG_0374.jpg

As Ernest Hemingway says, “If something is wrong, fix it. But train yourself not to worry, worry fixes nothing.” If you’re a worrywart and you know how I feel, I hope you’ll learn to let go with me. When you find yourself worrying about something, ask yourself this: is this going to matter in a year?

A great way to relieve yourself of worrying and questions is to write down everything you’re afraid about, get it out of your brain, and let go of it. Throw it away. Let go of any negative thoughts that aren’t helping. Also, know when it’s proper to worry. I’ve learned that it’s okay to be nervous about something. But you should push the fear out of your brain and keep living.

Thank you for reading! This is something hard to share, but something I wanted to share with all of you. If you’re like me, and relate to this, leave me a comment and we’ll chat down below. I hope you all have a fantastic, worry-free day.

March Wrap Up & Favorites

March has come to an end, folks! This month was unfortunately meh for me. I just wish Spring would hurry up already! How was March for you? We’ll chat in the comments, but in the meantime, let’s get into the post!

IMG_0404.jpgIMG_0403.jpg

My newest cleanser, the Aveeno Ultra-Calming cleanser, is wonderful, and is definitely my favorite product from this month. The cleanser is made specifically for sensitive skin, which I have. As it says on the bottle, the cleanser foams when it comes out, which makes my life easier, since I don’t have to lather it up. Another plus: it’s fragrance free, which is a must for me when it comes to cleansers!

IMG_0415.jpg

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch was my favorite book that I read this month. It’s a YA Fantasy, and is a real page turner–the plot is fascinating, the characters are well-developed, and the world-building is incredible. For all of my book-lovers out there (or book-haters), read this. I’m sure you’ll love it.

IMG_0402.jpg

For some reason, my hands were really dry this whole month! So, I pretty much always had this lotion near me, and I’ve had to apply it a few times every day. It has a soft, feminine scent that isn’t strong. The cream has helped my hands look & feel more hydrated and healthy!

IMG_0418.jpg

I’m sure May is going to love reading this! My favorite food from this month was mango strips–but who am I kidding, mango strips are my favorite snack year-round. Pick these up at your local Trader Joe’s or healthy food store! You’ll eat the bag in a day, I swear!

What was the highlight of your month? What are your hopes for April? Thank you so much for reading!

My Favorite Makeup Products | Collab With Alicia Parry

Hello, hello! Happy Monday!

In today’s post, I’m going to be sharing with you my favorite makeup products for eyes, lips, and face. I’m doing this as a collab with the amazing Alicia Parry–be sure to check out her blog, because her photos are drop-dead gorgeous, and her posts are so interesting! Alicia is sharing her favorite beauty products, and you don’t wanna miss that!

IMG_0287.jpg

-Eyes-

I don’t put on a lot of makeup, so I don’t splurge on expensive brand makeup. (I do, however, spend big bucks on my hair). So, most of my makeup is drugstore makeup, and it works just as well for me!

I recently tried out a new mascara called Flower, but I wasn’t crazy about it, and I came back to my good ‘ol Maybelline Great Lash. This mascara is a classic, and it’s easy to see why–it gets the job done, works well, and doesn’t clump. It’s a must-have in every makeup bag!

IMG_0282.jpg

Isn’t this palette gorgeous?! For eyeshadow, I use the Need it Nude palette from E.L.F. I’ve talked about this in the past, but I can’t seem to stop sharing it. The palette has all your basic eyeshadow colors, it applies easily, and it lasts the whole day. What more could a girl want?

IMG_0275.jpg

-Face-

Because of my blemish-prone skin, I can’t wear a lot on my face. I don’t prime or contour my face, I just wear foundation. I don’t think anyone notices the difference, anyway! For foundation, on special occasions, I use the E.L.F. foundation in the color Beige. I love this foundation, and when I run out, I’ll definitely buy more! When I’m not going out in public, I put on the Erase Paste from Benefit. It truly does a fantastic job of hiding my pores and smoothing out my face.

To blend the Erase Paste and foundation, I use this beauty blender. The handle makes blending much easier, plus it’s more sanitary, because my fingers aren’t directly touching the blender. Win-win.

IMG_0302.jpgIMG_0299.jpg

-Lips-

For my lips, I love using chapstick and the NYX Butter Gloss in the shade Angel Food Cake. I have quite a few lip glosses, but I prefer the NYX one above them all, because the gloss isn’t runny, and it smells like heaven.

Before you leave, check out Alicia’s post & blog! Thank you for stopping by! Do you have any favorite products? Have a great day!

5 Things Not To Do As A Blogger

Hello there! Happy Saturday! By the way, thank you all so much for the survey results! Many of you said that you wanted more blogging posts, so be prepared for quite a few of those over the next few weeks!

In today’s post, I’m going to be talking about five things NOT to do as a blogger. I’ve talked about what you SHOULD do as a blogger in the past, so it’s time to shake it up and try something new! Let’s hop right in.

Unknown.jpeg

Fancy graphic, huh? I don’t think including too many photos or over promoting your posts would kill your blog, but then again, I’ve always had a flair for the dramatic. 😉

-Don’t Post Just To Post-

Be sure to check out my post on My #1 Blogging Tip, because it talks more about having quality content! It’s really important that when you post, it has a purpose, and you’re not just typing up a quick post just to post. If you find that you’re doing this, maybe try posting less often so you have time to work on making every post perfect.

IMG_0222.jpg

-Don’t Use Too Many Images-

It’s always really important to have images in your post. But it’s also important not to have TOO many! If you have more than 15+ pictures, go through the post and see which ones you really need. If some of the images are unimportant, consider deleting them! But if you don’t want to take away any photos, just warn your readers that there are a lot of pictures in that post.

IMG_0217.jpg

-And Don’t Use Too Few, Either-

But make sure you don’t use too few photos, either! If you have a post heavy with text, it’s easier on the eyes to include some images. So how many pictures should I include in a post?  It depends on the length of the post, but four to eight is usually a good amount. IMG_0221.jpg

-Don’t Tag Posts With Irrelevant Tags-

Tagging posts is so much fun, am I right?! But before you hit the publish button and share your post with the world, make sure the tags you use in your posts are relevant. Also, make sure the tags are common, frequently used tags so that people are more likely to find your post. Don’t use too many!

IMG_0207.jpg

-Don’t Over-Promote Your Blog-

Okay, for this last one, you’re probably shaking your head. It’s so important to get your blog out there–Pinning every post, putting it on social media, commenting on other blogs–but, remember, everything in moderation.

I once followed a blogger that pinned the same post from her blog over and over and over on Pinterest. She did this so that it would get more views, because the more you pin something, the more chances for it to get views. But that got annoying pretty quickly, as you can guess. If you re-pin your posts or share your posts over and over, you could lose followers. Tread carefully, my friends.

Were these tips helpful? Is there anything else that you think you should never do as a blogger? Let me know in the comments, and we’ll help each other out! Have a marvelous weekend.

Tips For A Better Night’s Sleep

I’m tired just writing the title, folks. Hey, how is it going?! For those of you on Spring break, how has your break been so far? In today’s post, I’m going to be sharing my tips for a better night’s rest, because when you sleep better, you have a better day.

I used to be very insomniac, and it was hard for me to fall asleep. Luckily, I’ve found some things that have helped me fall asleep easier, so hopefully, those tips will help you as well. Shall we get into it?

IMG_0018.jpgIMG_0020.jpg

-Get Cozy-

Okay, this should go without saying, but you need to get cozy, people. Grab some blankets and cozy socks, snuggle up in your little nest of warmth, and relax. Let go of any stress and just chill. Put your electronics in another room, turn on some soft piano music…the works. This is your time.

IMG_0028.jpgIMG_0041.jpg

-Treat Yourself-

Treat yourself, people! This is similar to getting cozy. Put on your best pajamas, slather yourself in lotion, grab a pint of ice cream (okay, maybe not), put on your slippers…set aside time for yourself. You survived the long day, you deserve it.

IMG_0036.jpg

-Read A Book-

Reading a book is a wiser option then being on your phone or laptop before bed–otherwise, it will be harder to fall asleep. My favorite book of all time is Heartless (have any of you read it). Just look at that cover. It’s gorgeous.

IMG_0043.jpg

-Use A Fan-

I talked about this in my post about my evening routine. A lot of people told me in the comments that they use a fan to fall asleep as well! This really works. It seems strange, but if you get a small fan, the relaxing noise of the fan blowing and the cold air will make it easier to fall asleep. I always make sure the air is blowing right on my face, so it makes me feel cold, and I bundle up under the covers. Make sure your fan doesn’t have an annoying noise, though, or it could make it hard to fall asleep.

IMG_0039.jpg

-Do Yoga-

I know many of you do yoga, but if you don’t, give it a try! I love doing the Yoga for Bedtime practice from YWA, but if you don’t have a lot of times in the evenings, she has a seven minute practice. Yoga will definitely help your body to relax and prepare you for sleep.

I hope you sleep well tonight! Do you already do some of these things? Let me know! Thanks for stopping by!

Buh-Bye, Bad Hair

Step aside, OGX Hair Mist, because there’s a new kid on the block. I’ve found my hair holy grail.Hair #3.jpg

The OGX coconut milk anti-breakage serum! What a mouthful, huh? I don’t use a lot of products on my hair, I usually like to keep it natural. Up until I became obsessed with OGX, I just used coconut oil and Calia products.

But–cue the dramatic music–everything has changed. I recently purchased the OGX coconut oil serum, and I love it more than the OGX mist! Both are similar, but I’ve only been using the serum for a week, and it’s already my favorite.

Hair #2.jpg

Pros:

  • It smells amazing
  • It hydrates my hair more than the mist
  • It’s inexpensive
  • My hair has been really silky after using it

Cons:

  • If I use more than a few drops, my hair gets really greasy

unnamed.jpg

I still love the mist, and I’ll still continue to use it, but the smell of the mist makes me feel nauseous sometimes. The serum is thicker, and I feel like it really does a better job of hydrating and making my hair silky. I just use a few drops after showering or when my ends are really dry.

Hair.jpg

I would 100% reccomend this, it has made my hair so silky. What is your hair holy grail? If you’ve tried this product, I would love to know. Have a great day!

My #1 Blogging Tip

Okay, before we get into the post, let me say something: the amount of followers that you have doesn’t matter. Each of those followers matters, but the total amount is unimportant. Whether you have 1 or 1000, at least someone is reading your blog. But you already know that, right? Cool. Then, let’s get into the post!

My post on Things Blogging Has Taught Me was really popular, so I thought I would do a post similar to that. I thought about doing a post on blogging tips, but in the end, your blog all comes down to one thing. Cue the drumroll…

unnamed-6.jpg

-Your Content-

That might seem kind of obvious, maybe not. But it’s true! Your content is everything. Here’s an example, since those seem to be helpful. There are two people. One person posts on their blog every single day. Each post has either typos, blurry pictures, spelling errors…or, maybe the person has amazing pictures, maybe they don’t have typos. It doesn’t matter, because the photos alone can’t hold the post. What’s important is the content. Is the post something interesting? Is the post something people will enjoy and want to read? I don’t know, maybe this person posts about avocados. You decide.

Then there’s the other person. Maybe they post every day, maybe they post once a week. But the difference is that they have interesting content. People look forward to their posts, because this person works hard on their photos, checks their spelling erorrs, and is constantly working to make their blog bigger and better.

unnamed-1.jpg

I’m not hating on anybody, please don’t think I’m being negative. People can post about whatever they want on their blogs.

There are so many important tips I could give. I could talk about how to design your blog, how to take good photos, but I’m not a complete expert. The one thing that I constantly tell new bloggers (or think of telling new bloggers, but I forget) is to have awesome content. To work hard on writing good posts.

unnamed.jpg

Hey, what do I know? I’m a 13 year old blogger with 800 followers. To the person with 3 followers, that seems like a lot. To the person with 5,000 followers, that’s not very many. But, like I said above, don’t worry about numbers! Worry about your content, your pictures, your community. Are people constantly commenting on your posts? Are you engaging your readers and are you sincerely interested in what they think about your posts?

unnamed.jpg

If you’re reading this and you feel that you work really hard on your content, hats off to you. You’re awesome. And before you go thinking the wrong idea, I don’t have perfect content. I don’t have a perfect blog. I don’t have thousands of bloggers. But I’m going to keep working hard–we’re all right where we need to be at the moment.

What are your thoughts on this? Was it helpful, or just filled with rambling? I hope you have an absolutely amazing day. Thank you for reading!

Morning Routine + Abs Workout

Happy International Women’s Day! How are you? (I’m pretty good, thanks for asking!)

My morning routine was requested by a few people in my evening routine post, so without further ado, let’s jump right in.

Morning #3.jpg

It always depends on the day, but I usually wake up around 7:00 to 7:15. On some days, I have to get up at 6:00, and on weekends I sleep in until 8:00 or 9:00.

Unknown.jpeg

After making my bed, the first thing I do is workout. I usually go for a HIIT run on my treadmill, but if I don’t have time, I’ll do a quick workout on my abs. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with my abs, and I made a quick workout that I do every day. It may look easy, but trust me, your heart will be pounding by the end. Be sure to try it out and let me know how it goes for you!

Morning #2.jpg

When I’m done with working out, I eat breakfast. I usually have either toast, fruit, or cereal. Sometimes all three, if I’m really hungry. 😉 Breakfast is the foundation of your day, so it’s important to eat something healthy and filling.

Morning #1.jpg

I try to fit this in every morning. I write down a to-do list in my planner and check my email & WordPress. This is the calm part of my morning where I can plan for the day and jot down some post ideas.

Morning #4.jpg

After showering, brushing my teeth, doing my hair, and getting dressed, I put on some makeup. Most days, I just wear mascara and blush to feel put together. When I’m going out in public, I’ll put on a layer of Erase Paste to hide my blemishes, but heavy makeup like foundation and eyeshadow is reserved for special days. But since I don’t really need makeup, I don’t wear a lot. (Or own a lot, for that matter.)

One more thing before you go–my blog has over 800 followers now! Gosh, that’s pretty cool. Thank you so much!

If you would like to share your morning routine or if you have a morning routine post on your blog, let me know! I hope you have a great rest of the day. Thank you for stopping by.
