five photography struggles //

Whether you’re a professional photographer or you just love taking pictures as a hobby, you’re definitely going to agree with these five photography struggles! Let’s get into the struggles.

Hi (1).jpg

1 // finding models

If you’re a professional photographer, you probably don’t have to deal with this, since you can hire models to be a part of your photoshoot. But if you’re just practicing photography and can’t afford a model, it’s really hard to find someone! A lot of people say, “I can’t be a model, I’m really bad at posing” or, “I get too flustered when I’m in front of the camera.” It’s really hard to find someone that’s actually willing to model for you and look natural behind the camera!

Of course, you can always take pictures of landscapes and flowers and whatnot, but there’s something about taking pictures of people that I find to be really fun!

2 // checking the photo before uploading

You take a picture, and check how it looks on the camera screen. It’s beautiful! The photo is perfectly focused, the lighting is balanced, and the model has a good expression. But then, you upload the picture to the computer…and, of course, it’s awful. The model’s eyes are actually closed, there’s a shadow over her face, and it’s blurry.

This happens to me all the time.

3 // the camera battery

I almost always check to make sure the camera battery is charged, but there are countless times when I’m taking pictures and the battery unexpectedly dies! This is so frustrating, especially when you’ve just begun shooting.

4 // bad lighting or weather

Oh, weather. How you ruin my plans.

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been excited to take pictures, but I wake up and…the weather is awful. Either the sun is behind a cloud, it’s raining, it’s too bright outside…I feel like the weather is never in my favor!

5 // things getting in the shot

I can’t tell you how many times this has happened to me. The picture will look fine on the camera screen, but when I upload it to my computer, lo and behold…someone is walking in the background. My hair is hanging over the lens. There’s a crooked, ugly tree branch right next to my model.

I know you can always edit pictures, but this is so frustrating to me!

There you have it for today’s post! As always, thanks for stopping by.

Until next time!

moments // 1

Hello my beautiful readers & welcome back!

I am very excited to share this post with you. I’m starting a new series where I’ll be sharing recent photos that I’ve taken, as well as photos from my week & life.

The photos in today’s post come from my recent photoshoot–many thanks to Carynn for modeling! If you’re viewing this post on your phone, please check it out on a computer–the photos will have higher quality & look better! Enough chit-chat, I think the photos speak for themselves.

IMG_0025.jpg

I think this photo turned out cool. It’s intentionally blurry, so the colors will blur together and make the photo look whimsical. I had Carynn carry these beautiful wildflowers to add a bit of color to the picture.

IMG_0038.jpgIMG_0167-2.jpgIMG_0188.jpgIMG_0100.jpg

I took a pre-photoshoot selfie! I’m loving this sweater, it’s so comfy and easy to move in, which is perfect for when I’m taking pictures. To the right, you can see my Canon camera bag, which has all of my equipment and lenses.

IMG_0193.jpg

All photographs taken by me. Many thanks to Carynn for modeling!

As always, criticism is really appreciated. I have thick skin and I’m trying to get better, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts. Thank you for reading!

Trip to Boston + Photography

Hello, how are you?

I had a great weekend (a very exhausting one, at that). I went on a field trip to Boston, and it was tons of fun. I’m usually not a city girl, but Boston has a special place in my heart because I was born there, and lived there for almost a year when I was a baby!

My father went to Harvard for graduate school, so it was really cool to see all the Harvard buildings. I’ve been to Boston more times than I can count, and I just love it. There’s something about the city that has such a vibrant, intelligent energy to it.

If you are reading this from the WordPress Reader, please please please with a thousand cherries on top, view this post from the web. I assure you the photos will look 1000 times better, and will be much higher quality. Thank you!

IMG_1498.jpgIMG_1500.jpg

It was a cloudy day and raining like crazy, so the photos turned out pretty dark! I took way too many pictures and spent a while sorting through all of them.

IMG_1507.jpgIMG_1513.jpgIMG_1510.jpg

I stumbled across these succulents in front of the florist’s shop and just had to snap some pictures. Unfortunately I didn’t buy any, but they made for great pictures.

IMG_1517.jpg

We walked past Lush and I was begging to go in, but we didn’t have time! Maybe that’s a good thing, because I would have spent a ton of money if we ended up going in there.

IMG_1519.jpg

This picture is completely blurry, and I apologize for that, but I had to take a picture of the new Midnight Mint Mocha frappucciono. This frap seriously tastes like a thin mint, it’s heavenly. Have you tried it yet?

IMG_1536.jpg

Yup, another picture with the half-empty frap.

IMG_1526.jpgIMG_1539.jpgIMG_1610.jpgIMG_1587.jpg

All in all, the trip was so much fun. If you think this is the end of the post, though, you’re wrong! Cue the evil laughter, because I have even more pictures for y’all to look at. The next day (Sunday), my family went to a historical event at an old mansion. It was pouring, and I got soaked to the bone, but I did get some fantastic photos so it was a win-win.

IMG_1657.jpgIMG_1643.jpgIMG_1630.jpgIMG_1642.jpgIMG_1659.jpgIMG_1634.jpgIMG_1640.jpgIMG_1653.jpgIMG_1667.jpg

Well, well, well, there you have it. A ton of photos, a ton of fun, and a ton of memories! Thank you for reading and surviving this long post.

What did you do this weekend?

Spring Photography + Photoshoot

Hello, Happy Monday! Wasn’t the weather fantastic yesterday?

Yesterday, I went outside and took some pictures, and my amazing mother & I did a bit of a photoshoot. I put a lot of fun effects on the photos, and I’m really excited to share them with you!

If you’re reading this in the WordPress Reader, go to my website, the photos will be larger and have higher quality!

IMG_0535.jpg

This picture is one of my favorites! We took it right by the pond. It was one of those photos that I wasn’t expecting to turn out well, but it did. IMG_0565.jpgIMG_0494.jpgIMG_0480.jpg

Look at this fresh moss! The snow is finally gone, folks. Cue the rainy weather and mud, and then we’ll finally get some buds and new growth.

IMG_0481.jpgIMG_0483.jpgIMG_0577.jpgIMG_0473.jpgIMG_0520 (1).jpg

Please ignore my crazy hiking boots, haha! This picture was a fun one to take. It involved climbing through a ton of branches to get to the thick branch on this tree. The things I do for you guys…;) I was so afraid that I was going to fall into the water, but luckily, I didn’t.

IMG_0492(1).jpg

This black and white photo of me is the grand finale–it’s my absolute favorite picture of the ones we took! Am I smirking, am I smiling, am I frowning–nobody knows. My expression is weird. But I love it!

As always, thank you for reading! Which photo is your favorite? Is Spring arriving where you live? Have a fantastic Monday, and stay tuned for Wednesday, I have a fun post to share with you.

Lake Placid

IMG_9947.jpg

Ye be warned: this post has a ton of pictures. My family & I went to Lake Placid, NY a few days ago! It’s a large, adorable town in the Adirondacks a few hours away from where we live. Everybody in the town is super outdoorsy–from skating on the lake, snow shoeing, hiking, climbing the mountains, skiing, and hockey, everyone is involved. And those are just the winter activities. My family has actually been there a few times before, and our last trip there was so much fun.

IMG_9887.jpg

Oh, another thing before we get into it–we forgot to bring the camera to some of the activities, so we weren’t able to photograph most of the trip. When I did take pictures, I wasn’t focused on perfect photos, so don’t expect high-level photographer pictures, mmk?

IMG_9935.jpgIMG_9934.jpgIMG_9933.jpg

To have a good vacation, I strongly believe that you need to stay in a good hotel so that you’ll have a nice, clean place to come back to after a long fun-filled day. This hotel didn’t disappoint. We stayed in Hotel North Woods, a large, beautiful hotel on main street. It’s only a few minutes away from a Starbucks–a big bonus, huh? My sister and I walked there in the morning to get hot cocoa and tea.

IMG_9895.jpg

Another thing I love about Lake Placid? The main street! There are tons of shops–ice cream shops, fudge shops, Starbucks, Gap…even an olive oil shop. It’s common to see people with skates over their shoulders still wearing snow gear in the stores after skating on the lake.

IMG_9922.jpg

The town in general is really clean and everyone is so friendly. And the food is fantastic. 😉 We ordered pizza, got popcorn, ate ice cream…but we definitely got a workout in! We skated on the lake, went snowshoeing, walked the entire town, went sledding…99% of the time, we were outside.

IMG_9911.jpgIMG_9974.jpgIMG_9912 (1).jpg

The best part of the vacation was going on the tobaggon shoot–I was terrified but forced myself to think of it like a rollercoaster. It was worth it! If you ever have the opportunity to go on a tobaggon shoot, do it.

IMG_9949.jpgWhoa, you survived the long post! Long story short: go to Lake Placid. If you’ve ever been there, let me know, I’m curious. If you could go anywhere, where would you go? Thank you for reading!

Ice Skating & Winter Wonderland Photography

Ye be warned: this post has a ton of pictures. Well, wishes do come true, apparently! (Or is it dreams?) A few days ago, the pond froze over and we were able to go ice skating. The ice was like glass, it was so smooth and perfect. The sun was shining, it wasn’t too cold outside…it was a beautiful day.

Unknown-1.jpegIMG_9644.jpg

Charlie had fun too, apparently! He ran all around the pond barking at the neighbor’s dogs.

Unknown-3.jpeg

My eyes are a bit squinty–the sun was shining right in my eyes. Oops.

Unknown-2.jpeg

Today we got a ton of snow–it’s still snowing outside–and my fingers were itching to take some photos. My fingers were freezing, the wet snow was hitting my face…it was bliss. 😉 The fresh, crisp air felt amazing. I always feel so peaceful when I’m outside, especially when I’m in the woods behind our house.

Unknown-5.jpegUnknown-4.jpeg

These photos honestly don’t do justice to how beautiful it was!

I hope you enjoyed these photos! Thank you, as always, for reading! Have a great day y’all and be sure to grab some hot cocoa.

A Walk In Winter

Today was a brisk, beautiful winter day. We’ve gotten a ton of snow over the past few days, turning the trail behind our house into a winter wonderland. Winter is one of my favorite seasons, because the snow covers everything and makes it look so lovely–until the snow melts, and it becomes muddy. IMG_4353.jpg

Isn’t it crazy–I feel like I was just walking down this trail in fall! Time flies so quickly. If you would like to see some fall pictures from a few months ago, here’s the post.

IMG_4351.jpgIMG_4352 (1).jpg

Unfortunately, the pond isn’t fully frozen yet, so we haven’t been able to go ice skating on it yet. I’m crossing my fingers for a cold day so that it will freeze. Sometimes it freezes, but the surface is too bumpy, so it isn’t safe.

IMG_4354 (1).jpgimg_4365

I’m by no means a good photographer, I just enjoy taking pictures of nature. Thank you for reading! Stay tuned, because I’m currently editing and working on some awesome new content & posts.

New Sewing Projects

I guess I have some new projects to show you! I’ve been making little things here and there while I can, but don’t get too excited, it’s nothing fancy.

image-11

I made Marckie some leggings left over from my Art Gallery Fabric top. I have to say, they look adorable but I barely had enough fabric to make them properly! He is so hard to photograph…this blurry photo that I took on the stairs was one of the only good shots! (Marck’s my brother if you didn’t know)

image 12

And…another blurry picture. Yikes. These are pajama leggings, they aren’t really for outside wear. I made them in about 15 minutes. Not my best work, but he likes them, and luckily doesn’t mind the bright “girly” colors. When I wear my Art Gallery Top, we look like matching twins.

img 16

I have a new obsession with zippered pouches and I finally figured out how to make them right.

img 15

I’m super proud of the lining! Besides the fact that on one side the sewing machines are upside down. I made the outside of the bag out of a fat quarter.

img 17

The other one has a cute lining as well. I made this one out of an upholstery fabric on the outside, so it’s sturdier.

img 14

I made some mini bunting flags for my sewing room. My mother asked for some polka dot bunting flags for the kitchen (oops forgot to photograph them!) These were really easy to make….I love making bunting flags. My first try for my brother’s room turned out pretty terrible…

image 13Lastly, I have a clay project! My friend came over and we tried making some clay pumpkins. It was our first time, but they don’t look that bad! Actually, I really like them.

Thanks for reading!
